I Turned Every Taylor Swift Album Into a Farmhouse Paint Palette
This started as a joke and turned into the most useful color exercise I have done all year.
Here is the thing about albums: each one has a color world. You know it the second you see the cover. Folklore is gray-green and foggy. Red is maple leaves and rust. Reputation is black and newsprint. Those are not just moods, they are palettes, and Farmhouse paint palettes are my whole thing.
So I gave myself a rule. Twelve albums, twelve real paint plans. Not mood boards. Not vibes. Four actual colors per era, with Sherwin Williams codes, the Benjamin Moore match for every single one, the light reflectance value, and the room it belongs in.
What I ended up with surprised me. A few of these are genuinely some of the best farmhouse palettes I have put together, and you would never guess where they came from.
Quick note before we start: I am not affiliated with Taylor Swift in any way. This is a color exercise by someone who loves paint. Every palette below is inspired by the mood of a record, not by anyone’s actual house.
How I Built These Palettes
Four rules, applied to all twelve.
Every palette gets four jobs.
A wall color, a trim color, an accent, and an anchor. That is the smallest set that can actually finish a room. Walls set the mood, trim frames it, the accent gives it personality, the anchor keeps it from floating away.
Every color is real and verified.
Sherwin Williams code, Benjamin Moore match, LRV, and hex. I checked all of them against the brands’ own color pages. Two things turned up while I was checking, and they are worth knowing regardless of this post. SW 6062 is no longer called Rugged Brown, it is now Vintage Leather. And Benjamin Moore 1444 is New Age, not Winter Solstice. Winter Solstice is BM 1605 and it is a blue-gray, not a violet. Half the internet has that one wrong.
Every palette gets a room.
A palette that does not belong anywhere is a mood board. Each one below is assigned to a real room, and a few of them are assigned to a very small room on purpose.
SW vs BM:
every slot lists both brands because your closest paint store should decide this, not me. The matches are equivalents, not clones. Where two colors are unusually close I say so, and where they drift I say that too.
One more thing. You will notice the same color names coming back across different eras. That is on purpose. All twelve palettes pull from one family of about thirty farmhouse colors, which is exactly why you could paint two of these in the same house without the rooms arguing with each other.
1. Taylor Swift (2006): Front Porch Summer
Screen doors, hay fields, faded teal, the specific light you get on a porch at seven in the evening. The debut record is the most straightforwardly country thing she made, and it turns into the friendliest palette here.

Where I’d use it: entry, front porch, mudroom. Shoji White on the walls, the deep blue on the door, and Sea Salt on a bench or a bead board wall.
The Mistake to Avoid: buying Sea Salt for the blue. It has a secret. In south light it reads soft blue-green, and in north light it goes straight green. Neither one is wrong, but check your windows before you commit. I wrote a whole Sea Salt review about this exact problem.

2. Fearless (2008): Golden Hour
Honey light. Champagne. The last hour before the sun drops. This is the warmest palette in the group and the one most likely to make a north-facing room feel liveable in February.

Where I’d use it: dining room, or a living room that already gets good afternoon sun.
The Mistake to Avoid: warm walls, plus warm bulbs, plus warm wood floors, equals a room that looks like it is lit by a candle you cannot find. Keep one cool element in the space. A pewter lamp, a stone bowl, a black window frame. One is enough.
SW vs BM: Ivoire and Mohave Desert are within half a point of LRV, which is about as close as cross-brand matching gets. Mohave Desert is a hair cleaner and brighter. Ivoire is slightly more muted.
3. Speak Now (2010): Lavender Twilight
I will be honest, this was the hardest one. Purple and farmhouse do not naturally get along. The version that works is a lavender so grayed off that most people would call it a warm gray until they put it next to an actual gray.

Where I’d use it: bedroom. Only a bedroom. This one does not want to be in a kitchen.
The Mistake to Avoid: pairing a lavender wall with a cool, blue-white trim. It pushes the wall straight to purple and the whole thing tips juvenile. Warm white trim is the entire trick. That is why Alabaster is in this palette and not a crisper white.
Budget Note: if you want the mood without repainting, this palette works almost as well as bedding. Lavender-gray linen, warm white sheets, a bronze lamp. Under a hundred dollars and reversible.

4. Red (2012): Maple Autumn
Scarves, maple leaves, that particular rust color a barn goes after thirty years. The trick with this palette is that the red is barely on the walls at all.

Where I’d use it: living room with the clay on a built-in, and the deep red on the front door.
The Mistake to Avoid: painting a whole room Rookwood Red. At LRV 5 it absorbs nearly all the light that hits it. On a door, a hutch, or one piece of furniture it looks collected. On four walls it looks like a decision someone regretted.
Where I’d use it (the honest version): Cavern Clay is the star here, not the red. It is dusty enough to read like aged clay instead of paint, and it is the color I recommend when someone says they want warmth but not orange.

5. 1989 (2014): Coastal Polaroid
Pale, washed out, salt air, a photograph left on a windowsill too long. This is the brightest palette in the set and the only one with no dark color on a wall anywhere.

Where I’d use it: bathroom, laundry room, or a coastal farmhouse bedroom.
The Mistake to Avoid: using a bright white trim like High Reflective White against a warm white wall. It makes the wall look dirty, every time. This palette only works because Snowbound is cool-neutral too. If your walls are Alabaster or Shoji White, do not put this trim next to them.
Note on the anchor: Iron Ore is not on a wall here. It is window frames, hardware, and maybe a mirror. That is the entire dark contribution and the room needs it, or the whole thing floats away.

6. Reputation (2017): The Dark Powder Room
Nobody paints a whole farmhouse this way and nobody should. One small room, though, and it becomes the best room in the house. Every guest comments on it.

Where I’d use it: powder room, an office accent wall, or interior doors throughout the house.
The Mistake to Avoid: doing this in a room with no window and no contrast. A dark room needs one genuinely bright element or it stops feeling moody and starts feeling small. The white ceiling in this recipe is not optional.
The trick worth stealing: same color on the walls and the trim, different sheen. Flat on walls, satin on trim. The color reads identical but the light catches differently and the room looks like it cost three times what it did. It also costs nothing extra, since you are buying the same gallon.

7. Lover (2019): Blush and Sky
Pastel pink and sky blue is a hard sell in a farmhouse. It works here for exactly one reason, and it is the fourth color.

Where I’d use it: guest room, sunroom, or a girl’s bedroom that will still work when she is twenty.
The Mistake to Avoid: pink plus blue with nothing dark in the room reads like a nursery. Full stop. The charcoal is the only reason this palette works on an adult, and it needs to appear at least twice. A dresser and a lamp base, or a headboard and the curtain rod.
Why Malted Milk and not a softer pink: at LRV 62 it has enough pigment to read like limewashed plaster. Prettier, lighter blush colors flash white on three walls and only show their color near a window, which is the most disappointing thing a paint can do. Honest caveat: in a north-facing or low-light bedroom, Malted Milk settles toward mauve-beige. Sample it on two walls and look at it at night under lamps before you buy gallons.
8. Folklore (2020): The Cardigan Palette
Here it is. The one I would actually paint.
Gray-green, fog, a cabin nobody has visited in a while, wool. This is the most straightforwardly Farmhouse Aesthetic palette in the whole post, and if you only take one thing from this article, take this.

Where I’d use it: living room, den, or honestly the whole main floor. This is the rare palette that scales up.
The Mistake to Avoid: Dried Thyme in a dark north-facing room. The sage disappears and you get gray-brown. It is still a nice color, it is just not the color you bought. Sample on two walls, always.

9. Evermore (2020): Late Autumn Woods
Folklore’s palette after the leaves turn. Same woods, six weeks later, everything gone amber.

Where I’d use it: dining room, den, or any room with a fireplace in it.
The Mistake to Avoid: treating rust as a wall color. Copper Mountain on four walls goes heavy within about a week. It belongs on a built-in, a door, or one wall behind a fireplace where the stone can balance it.
Seasonal advice: this is the palette to paint in September. Rust and amber look wrong in June and perfect from October through February, so if you are on the fence, wait for the season that sells it to you.
A naming note worth having: Vintage Leather is the color formerly sold as Rugged Brown. Same chip, same SW 6062, new name. If you find an old blog post recommending Rugged Brown, that is what they mean.
10. Midnights (2022): Lavender Haze
Deep navy, one o’clock in the morning, and that grayed-off lavender that shows up when your eyes adjust to the dark.

Where I’d use it: bedroom, library, a home office you want to feel like a cocoon.
The Mistake to Avoid: Naval at LRV 4.5 in a small room with one small window. It will feel like a closet. If that describes your room, Benjamin Moore Hale Navy HC-154 (LRV 8.36, hex #434B56) is the friendlier version of the same idea and it is the one I recommend more often.
Honest note on the lavender: Sensitive Tint is subtle. Its red and blue values are almost equal with the green pulled down just five points, which is exactly what makes it read grayed rather than purple. In a bright south-facing room it can flatten to plain gray. That is fine when it is an accent on bedding or a chair. Do not build a whole room on it.

11. The Tortured Poets Department (2024): Typewriter Ivory
One color family, three sheens, one black. This is the most on-trend palette in the set and the one that photographs best.

Where I’d use it: home office, reading nook, or a hallway of built-ins.
The Mistake to Avoid: assuming a monochrome room needs less planning. It needs more. With this little color variation, texture is doing every bit of the work. Linen, wool, aged wood, unlacquered brass, a little stone. Take any one of those out and the room goes flat immediately.
Why Peppercorn: its red, green and blue values are identical, which is genuinely rare in a gray. That is why it never surprises you by going blue in the afternoon or brown at night. If you have been burned by a gray before, this is the one to try.

12. The Life of a Showgirl (2025): Marigold and Brass
The era’s own palette is orange and glitter. The farmhouse version keeps every bit of the warmth and drops the sparkle, and it turns out marigold is a wonderful cabinet color.

Where I’d use it: dining room, entry, or a butler’s pantry. Small rooms handle this much saturation better than large ones.
The Mistake to Avoid: Yam is the most saturated color in this entire article. Under warm evening bulbs it pushes further orange than it looks on the chip. Cabinets, a door, or a single wall. Never a whole room.
SW vs BM, and a genuinely funny coincidence: Sherwin Williams Yam and Benjamin Moore Buttered Yam are within 1.3 points of LRV and their hex values differ by six units in one channel. Two brands, nearly the same name, nearly the same color. Buttered Yam reads a touch more golden and a touch less brick.
The Five Colors That Kept Showing Up
Twelve palettes, and a handful of colors appeared over and over without me planning it.
Alabaster SW 7008 showed up as trim in four palettes. It is the warm white that does not fight anything.
Shoji White SW 7042 landed in three, twice as trim and once on walls. Warmer and softer than Alabaster, and better in rooms where crisp feels wrong.
Iron Ore SW 7069 appeared in three as the anchor. Window frames, doors, hardware. It is the most-pinned black in farmhouse decor for good reason.
Greek Villa SW 7551 did trim duty in three. One step brighter than the wall white, which is the whole job of a trim color.
Cavern Clay SW 7701 turned up twice as the warm risk color, and I would happily put it in more.
That overlap is the actual point. These twelve palettes are not twelve separate ideas, they are twelve arrangements of one farmhouse color family. Which is why you can paint the Folklore living room, the Midnights bedroom and the Reputation powder room in the same house and the whole thing still reads as one home.

How to Actually Use One of These
Pick one palette. Not your favorite three. One.
Start with the room the palette was assigned to. These are not interchangeable. The Reputation palette in a living room is a mistake. The Folklore palette in a powder room is a waste of a good palette.
Sample before you buy gallons. Every single time. Test on two walls per room, the brightest and the darkest, and look at them in the morning, in the afternoon, and under lamps at night. Peel and stick paint samples turn this into a one-afternoon job instead of a wall covered in smudges you then have to prime over.
Swap your bulbs first. Cool bulbs lie about warm colors, and eleven of these twelve palettes are warm. Get 2700K warm white bulbs in before you judge anything.
Do the accent before the walls. Walls are the expensive, disruptive, whole-weekend part. The accent is a quart and an afternoon. Paint the door or the hutch first, live with it, and you will know within a week whether the palette is right for you.
Common Mistakes Across All Twelve
- Mixing two palettes in one sightline. If you can see both rooms from one spot, they need to share at least the trim white.
- Skipping the anchor. Every palette here has a dark color for a reason. Rooms without one look unfinished no matter how nice the wall color is.
- Dark colors in dark rooms. Naval, Iron Ore and Rookwood Red all need either natural light or a deliberate, high-contrast plan. A dark color in a dim room is just a dim room.
- Cool trim on warm walls. The single most common paint mistake I see, and it makes good wall colors look dirty.
- Buying before sampling. A quart costs a few dollars. A repaint costs a weekend and sixty dollars a gallon.

FAQs
Which of these palettes is the most useful?
Folklore, easily. Anew Gray walls, Shoji White trim, Dried Thyme accents and Pewter Green as the anchor is a genuinely excellent farmhouse living room palette that works whether or not you have ever heard the album.
Can I mix Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore in one palette?
Yes. Undertone matters far more than brand, which is why every color here lists both. Just buy all your whites from one brand, because whites are where small undertone differences show up most.
What does LRV mean and why is it listed?
Light reflectance value, on a scale from about 2 to 94. It tells you how much light a color bounces back. Anything under 10 is very dark and needs good natural light. Anything over 80 reads as a white. It is the single most useful number on a paint chip and almost nobody looks at it.
Are these colors that Taylor Swift actually uses in her homes?
No, and I would not know. These are inspired by the color world of each record, nothing more. I have no connection to her or her team.
How many of these can I use in one house?
Two or three, comfortably, as long as they share a trim white and are not visible from the same spot. All twelve would be a lot of house.
Which palette is best for a small dark room?
Reputation, and it is not close. Dark rooms fight you when you try to make them bright. Lean into it with Iron Ore, a white ceiling and warm brass, and the room stops being a problem.
Bringing It Home
The reason this worked is that the colors are real. You could take any one of these four-color recipes to a paint counter tomorrow and walk out with a plan.
